Exploring an architectural archive: the OMNI building (San José, Costa Rica, 1979-1982)

In architecture, the archival turn has allowed for a shift from a paradigm that disregarded or forgot about archives to a paradigm that included their identification, preservation, and even exhibition. In this sense, the article aims to describe the process of exploring an architectural archive, specifically that of the OMNI building, a mixed-use shopping center developed between 1979 and 1982 in the city of San José, capital of Costa Rica. With this, the intention of the article is to highlight the value of this particular archive, explore its unique characteristics, and articulate its potential for design and experimentation.
